Mrs. Godfrey's Class is Going Green

This week my students finished reporting to the class what they learned in the research projects they conducted last week. They enjoyed it so much they asked if they could make mini-posters illustrating their research findings. This led to their asking to create a bulletin board to display their work.
Although this has been a good week and the children are becoming more and more involved (one girl brought in a website she had found that has some neat things for children to do), it slowed down the pace I had originally planned. I am glad Dr. Bowden called those plans our "Proposed Plans!" It looks like we may have to add a week to our project in order to get it all done, but my sixth graders are constructing their learning. Sometimes I feel like I play "Beat the Clock" from the moment my students arrive, so it has been refreshing to be able to take hold of so many teachable moments!
Other classes are getting on the recycling bandwagon, and everyday someone from another class comes in to bring the materials they have collected. Our piles keep growing, and it looks like our principal is going to have lots to take to the recycling center for us.

  1. Can anyone tell me how to indent paragraphs or maybe double space between paragraphs? When I edit and save the changes, nothing happens.Thank you for this and any other blogging tips you experienced bloggers might want to share with us first timers.

  3. Good morning, I am new to blogging too. To answer the question you posted on my blog about indenting a paragraph in a blog, This is a little tricky – blogs are web pages and to format them requires tweeting the HTML. To find out how to do this, I had to do a google search. The easiest way, I found to do this is to add the space tag at the beginning of the paragraph several times. i.e. if you want the normal five spaces, you will need to add the space tag five times. "&_nbsp;" (remove the _ between the & and the n, The only way I can show you the tag is to place the _ in it.) is the space tag. When you compose your blog, at the top right corner are two tabs: Edit HTML and Compose. Choose Edit HTML add the space tag five times and first word, then switch back to the compose tab.

Therefore, to indent the above paragraph, it would look like this in the Edit Html editor:

    &_nbsp; &_nbsp; &_nbsp; &_nbsp; &_nbsp Good morning Sandy, . . . (remember to remove the _)

and will look indented under the Compose tab. Remember, to switch back to the compose tab after you type the first word. I tried to explain this as simply as possible. Hope it is clearer than the Mississippi. LOL. Hope this helps.

Here is the link where I found the info: http://www.bloggertipsandtricks.com/2007/04/another-way-to-get-indent-for-your-post.html.

  4. Neat! How interesting to allow your children to lead, and you follow! Enjoyed your two links too.

  5. Joan, I think this is a great idea. I really like the way that you are allowing your students to construct their knowledge in their project creation.
